Beginner 3D Print: Keyring Name Tag
What you'll make
A personalised keyring name tag — a great first print that teaches you the basics of slicing, bed adhesion, and print settings without needing supports or complex geometry.
What you'll need
- A 3D model (we'll create one in Tinkercad — free, browser-based)
- PLA filament (any colour)
- A keyring split ring
Step 1 — Design in Tinkercad
- Head to tinkercad.com and create a free account
- Create a new 3D design
- Drop a Box shape onto the workplane — resize it to 60mm × 25mm × 4mm
- Use the Text shape tool to type your name. Set the depth to 2mm and position it centred on the box
- Add a small cylinder (6mm diameter, 6mm tall) near one end for the keyring hole — use the Hole tool to punch it through
- Group everything and export as
.stl
Step 2 — Slice in Bambu Studio
- Open Bambu Studio and import your
.stl - Recommended settings for a first print:
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Infill: 15% (gyroid or grid)
- Supports: None needed
- Brim: 5mm (helps adhesion on small flat parts)
- Slice and export to the printer via the SD card or Wi-Fi
Step 3 — Print
Load your filament, level the bed if prompted, and hit print. The tag should take around 20–30 minutes.
Tips
- If the first layer isn't sticking, try increasing bed temperature by 5°C or adding a glue stick layer
- Stringing between letters usually means your retraction settings need tweaking — ask a volunteer
- Want to add colour? Print the base in one colour, pause mid-print, swap filament, and resume
